Board Members Present: Linn County – Les Beck; Cedar Rapids – Sandy Pumphrey; Hiawatha – John Bender; Linn SWCD – Bruce Frana; Robins – Vince Bading; Steve Cooper – Marion
Others Present: Dennis Goemaat—Linn County Conservation; Jason McVay – USGS; Jon Nania – USGS; Jessica Brooks – National Weather Service; John Bruce – ECICOG; Jennifer Fencl – ECICOG
Call to Order at 1:37 pm
Approval of Minutes: Motion by Frana, second by Bender to approve the minutes from July 12, 2016. Motion carried.
Public Comments: Dennis Goemaat with the Linn County Conservation Board presented information about the Water & Land Legacy Bond. If successful, there may be partnership opportunities for water quality projects.
Annual State of Indian Creek Watershed report: Fencl distributed the final draft report and asked the Board to review and comment before posting to the ICWMA website.
USGS Indian Creek gage (USGS 05464695): Jon Nania and Jason McVay from the USGS gave a presentation about the gage on Indian Creek and the costs of turning it back on. Board discussed monitoring options for flow data, water quality sampling, and possible partners in funding.
Work plan and Budget (FY17) Review: The Board directed Fencl to organize a budget work session to discuss options for a strategic planning process and hiring a watershed coordinator.
Watershed-wide Ordinance Review Project: John Bruce with ECICOG described the results of his research of stormwater related ordinances included in the Annual State of Indian Creek Watershed report.
GeoTREE Center project update: Fencl provided a brief update to this project at UNI.
Prairiewoods East Culvert Stormwater project: This streambank stabilization project is complete.
High Resolution Maps from Army Corps: Cooper has the maps from the Corps and will make them available on the City of Marion’s website.
Announcements:
Next meeting: The next ICWMA Board meeting will be set in approximately one month at the Linn County Public Service Center.
