Initial Meeting Summary

Attending the meeting: Marion – Dan Whitlow and Todd Steigerwaldt; Linn County – Bill Micheel; Cedar Rapids – Craig Hanson, Tera Prucha, Mike Kuntz, David Scanlan; Hiawatha – Ken DeKeyser; ECICOG – Jennifer Fencl
Project contract / service agreement: Marion has not received a contract for the project yet. Jennifer will draft a service agreement for review.
Iowa Code Chapter 466B(3): Reviewed the Code language and discussed the general WMA 28E framework and participation. Discussed choosing a different name for the WMA and suggested “Indian Creek Watershed Partnership” and another idea might be “Indian Creek Watershed District”. Established the Core Committee for establishing the WMA as the following:
Marion – Dan Whitlow & Todd Steigerwaldt
Linn County – Bill Micheel
Cedar Rapids – Tera Prucha & David Scanlan
Hiawatha – Ken DeKeyser
Robins – Matt Johnson (confirmed after the meeting)
Albernett – ? (on council agenda to invite participation)
Linn Co. SWCD – John Bruene and/or Jon Gallagher and/or Laura Krouse
Work plan, timeline, and budget: Reviewed & discussed the work plan submitted with the RFP response. Will make every effort to coordinate our workshop with the Interagency Team visioning workshop. Will utilize email as much as possible and limit Core Committee meetings. Revised version of the work plan is enclosed.
Interagency Team visioning workshops: Discussed the Interagency Team project and ways to coordinate efforts. A summary (obtained after meeting) of their project is enclosed.
Other funding sources: Discussed the Phase II funding, the DNR watershed planning grants, and the EPA Urban Waters grant. Will further research the EPA urban waters grant.
Next steps: Discussed rotating the location of the Core Committee meetings. Will find out more about coordinating with the Interagency Team efforts. Will survey the Core Committee for their top 3 issues they would like to see addressed through the WMA. Discussed the importance of conducting a watershed assessment to satisfy NPDES (MS4) permits.
